OpcDbGateway is a software package (configurator and runtime) dedicated for automation and industrial control system or office applications integration service providers. Target environments include manufacturing plants, building management systems, power stations, and waste-water processing facilities for connecting corporate and control systems; as well as for integrating data from various sources in office applications.

OpcDbGateway has three main parts:

- OPC client to communicate with external OPC servers

- OPC server to provide handled data for external applications over OPC or Web services, or for graphical user interface provided via the vendor's OPCExplorer

- Soft controller for data and tasks handling

OpcDbGateway enables the creation of applications for data exchange between various data sources--OPC servers, OPC client applications, device communication drivers for external devices as sensors, actuators, programmable machines--allowing for data handling, monitoring, storing into process databases, creating trends, alarms, logging, reports, and integration to SOA (services oriented architecture) based systems. The system enables parallel running of tasks for data collecting and processing, working with process databases using built-in database functions or SQL commands, and periodic or single-shot launching of external programs and scripts at specified times or according to specified conditions.

Applications based on OpcDbGateway can be created by configuring using the configurator tool, with debugging features such as the historic trends wizard and OPC server address space mapping tool, or by programming using external DLL modules. It is possible to program algorithms special communication drivers within an external DLL and then to add it to the configured application part. Use of external DLLs also enables third-party software integration--for example, integration of communication drivers.
