iSCSI RAID Arrays with Virtualization Features in 2U, 3U

The integraStor line from iStor Networks consists of 2U and 3U models that provide iSCSI-based block storage to the network. The rack-mountable disk arrays feature hardware RAID (0, 1, 1+0, 5 and JBOD) and virtualization capabilities.

Specifically, the models are based on the vendor's RAID SoC, a 10 Gb/sec controller that enables the virtualization capabilities of the products as well as provides such features as caching and redundancy. The vendor notes as a key feature of the products their ability to provision virtual volumes (up to 1,024) from a single storage pool; without having to define drive groups or individual LUNs. Instead, volumes can be virtually applied to the hardware such that single drives can handle multiple volumes (and therefore multiple RAID levels); and volumes can be expanded or migrated to new RAID levels dynamically without user interruption. The virtual features additionally allow the system to utilize the full space of drives of different sizes.

Other features common to the models include application-aware cache technology, support for better than 80,000 IOPS per controller, Jumbo Frames support, TCP/IP off-load, and controller options with four or eight 1 GbE ports (RJ-45) or a single 10 GbE port (XFP transceiver sold separately).

Individual models currently available in the integraStor line include the iS325, the iS512, and iS512-10G.

The iS325 is a 3U model housing up to 15 SATA drives. Features include four or eight port 1 GbE configurations and a single-port 10 GbE configuration; triple-redundant power supplies; and an IP-based management GUI/event viewer.

The iS512 is a 2U model supporting the loading of 12 SAS or SATA drives. Additionally, the iS512 boasts SAS Expander ports (two per controller) supporting the addition of up to two 12 disk expansion modules, raising the total disk-support per system to a maximum of 36. The iS512 is available in 8 port 1 GbE configurations, or 1 single-port 10 GbE (the iS512-10G) configuration. The dual-controller configuration additionally boasts MPIO support, and, with the newest software release, support for high-availability failover between controllers such that the redundant controller automatically be switched to without data or performance loss when the operational controller malfunctions. Management of the iS512 is also via an embedded IP-based GUI.

The integraStor products are available now. Visit the iStor Networks Web site for further information.
