RAID Inc. Storage Arrays

Storage Arrays for FC, or iSCSI SAN, DAS

The RAID Inc. product family consists primarily of storage arrays for small to mid-level SAN or DAS implementations. The product family itself is divided into several brands, including Falcon, Magellan, Raven, Cobra, Maverick, Orion, X4, and X28. Within the product family are arrays facilitating FC, SAS, SCSI, or iSCSI connectivity and including SAS, FC, SATA, or SCSI physical drives.

Current entries listed in the product line include:

- The Magellan series, offered in 12 or 16-bay enclosures up to 5 of which can be combined into a single storage pool. The modules themselves can be loaded with either SAS (15,000 RPM) or SATA II (7,200) drives with mix-n-match support, and interface controllers are offered in 4 Gb/sec FC or 3 Gb/sec SAS flavors. Single or dual controller platforms are available, with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 supported.

- The Falcon series, which are SATA II drive enclosures offered in 8, 12, 16, 24, and now 48 bay flavors. Connectivity is available in FC (4 Gb/sec) or U320 SCSI, depending on the model.

- The X4, an all 4 Gb/sec FC (drives and interface) 3U enclosure (16 bays) with expandability to up to 224 drives. Dual controllers are featured, as are support for 3 spare disk types: dedicated, global, and enclosure-specific.

- The X28 and X24, which, like the X4, are all FC enclosure but with 2 Gb/sec FC connectivity and disks. The X28 scales up to 288 TB with up to 12 2Gb/sec host connections and includes a built-in switch; while the X24 scales up to 76.8 TB with up to 4 2 Gb/sec hosts.

- Orion, a SATA II enclosure interfaced via 2 Gb/sec FC, U320 SCSI, or iSCSI. The Orions are single controller offerings with 8, 12, or 15 bay flavors.

- Raven, an 8 port iSCSI enclosure with SATA II drives. The 3U enclosure has 15 removable drive bays and sports RAID levels of 0, 1, 5, 10, and 50.

- Maverick, a U320 SCSI interfaced DAS system with 8 SATA II drive bays.

- Cobra 5, also a U320 SCSI interfaced DAS system but loaded with U320 SCSI drives. Up to 16 drives are supported in the 3U chassis.

Also available from the vendor is their Microsoft Storage Server Enterprise Edition-based SAN/NAS Fusion offering, providing NAS features with RAID Level 10 protected FC or iSCSI host storage.

The RAID Inc. product line is available now. Visit the vendor's Web site for further information.
