Networking* Submit Products * AirLive 802.11 GearThe AirLive product line from OvisLink Corp. consists of multiple hardware products primarily targeted to home, SOHO, or SMB users. The product line consists of multiple entries, including ADSL and Bluetooth gear as well as VoIP equipment, Skype phone and gateway, security gateways, KVM switches, switches, and home powerline networking, to name a few categories. This briefing focuses on the vendor's 802.11 offerings, which themselves are broadly grouped into indoor, outdoor, and accessory products and include devices supporting 802.11 a/b/g and n connections in multiple configurations. Many of the vendor's offerings include as a key feature the ability to be deployed in various modes of operation, depending on the needs of the user. It is not uncommon, for example, for a product that is commonly used as an AP to also support usage as a client (allowing a PC to connect to a separate AP) or as a router. Dedicated clients include an 802.11n USB stick and PCI card, MIMO-G CardBus and PCI adapters, Turbo-G USB stick and PCI adapters, an 802.11g+ PCMCIA card, an 802.11g USB device with a detachable antenna, and an 802.11b SDIO card. WPA, WEP, and/or WPA2 are common features on most of the products (see vendor for current details). A sampling of the currently available AirLive gear includes: - WN-5000R: An 802.11n 4 port router (4 LAN/1 WAN) with dual transmitters and triple receivers. - WLA-5200AP: An a/b/g device with dual LAN ports that can operate in AP mode, bridge mode, client mode, WDS repeater mode, universal repeater mode (within which the vendor states that the device can be used to extend coverage of an existing AP/Router, even if the existing router does not have WDS support), WISP mode (client mode+IP sharing), and WISP+universal repeater mode. - WMM-3000AP: A MIMO-G device with 4 LAN ports and support for AP or WDS Repeater modes - WL-5480USB-80: A "Pocket AP" that connects via USB and functions as a router, AP, or client over 802.11g. Features a detachable 8dBi Antenna. - WIAS-1000G: The Wireless Internet Access Accounting Server, targeted for hot-spot deployments such as hotels, cafes, or restaurants. The device supports both public and private port connections (with differing LAN segments and firewall and authentication rules) and can support up to 2,000 accounts in 10 account types. - WL-5470AP: The newest entry, which can serve as a 5 port AP or a 4 port gateway (one port is the WAN). 8 different operating modes are supported by the device, including AP, bridge, client, gateway, WDS repeater, universal repeater, WISP, and WISP+universal repeater.
