Networking* Submit Products * IP Power 9258The IP Power 9258 is a power box currently consisting of four power outlets, each of which can be remotely controlled via IP connectivity. Each outlet can supply up to 6A of 120VAC or 250VAC power, using IEC 320 Inlet/Outlet power connectors. The strip itself connects to the LAN via 10/100 Ethernet and is IP addressable (fixed IP, DHCP, virtual IP); using a Web browser an administrator can access the switch over the LAN/WAN and turn the power on or off--or recycle the power--for each individual outlet. A built-in Web server facilitates this connectivity and interaction, in combination with a browser-based GUI that allows the user to use typical Web form controls to select the power status of each of the outlets. In addition to the ability to turn the power on or off for each outlet, the administrator can also setup power schedules such that power can be automatically turned on/off on a user-defined schedule. The vendor states that multiple browser types are supported, and access to the GUI can be password protected (password protection can be updated online). The box itself consists of the aforementioned four power outlets and an Ethernet port, in addition to a serial (RS232) port and separate LED indicators for the power outlets showing the state of each. Default statuses can be defined for each of the power outlets, such that if the power strip itself is recycled the outlets will return to their default status. A scriptable HTTP command interface allows the switch to be controlled via a browser or custom scripts; and the Web pages generated by the device themselves can be changed with user-defined graphics and custom links. Built-in NTP support allows the device to be time-synchronized to Internet NTP servers. The IP Power 9258 can be utilized as described above independently or in combination with the vendor's IM/CM4000 management consoles. When used in combination with the management console, the device supports remote access both through WAN or dial-up (dial-up access to the console and then LAN or Serial access to the power switch), should a WAN component be non-responsive. First availability for the device is expected next week, with both US and European/Australian models offered. Pricing is set at $199; a combo package including both the power switch and the vendor's CM4001 console is priced at $399.
