AirSafe / AirPatrol

Security Tools For Wireless LANs and Clients

The AirSafe and AirPatrol products provide security features specifically targeted to Wireless LANs and the Windows-based Wireless client machines (laptops, notebooks, etc.) that attach to them. New offerings in the product lines (described within the appropriate section below) are targeted primarily to Enterprise deployments.

The AirSafe product line consists of AirSafe, and the new AirSafe Enterprise.

AirSafe is a client utility that automatically disables the radio of a Wireless-enabled Windows machine whenever that machine is connected to the wired LAN; preventing the possibility that a rogue user might be able to access the machine--and possibly the wired network--through the wireless radio on the client. The newer AirSafe Enterprise extends this wireless access control capability to allow administrators to designate how, when, where, and if users can establish wireless connections; including limiting which networks can be connected to, forcing the use of a VPN client (including selected time frames for allowing VPN connections), or preventing connection to a predetermined list of potentially vulnerable access points, such as those with common names like "linksys," "hotspot," etc.

The AirPatrol product line is focused on the monitoring and securing of an existing WLAN. Offerings in the AirPatrol product line include:

- AirPatrol Enterprise provides detection and location of rogue accesss points, visual mapping of the WLAN including all users and APs, performance optimization, and WEP key distribution and rotation features. Detection is facilitated through AirPatrol hardware sensors (802.11a/b/g, and PoE); and/or, optionally, via Windows client software.

- AirPatrol Sentinel provides a continuous scan of the wired network, scanning available ports searching for the connection of rogue access points. When a rogue AP is detected, its type, IP address, MAC address, wireless channel, transmitter power and SSID are all reported. An optional, software only companion product, AirPatrol Mobile (Windows XP), can be utilized in conjunction with AirPatrol Sentinel to determine the exact location of the APs. Alerts can be generated via E-mail when rouge devices are found. The technology is updated with access point definitions and detection engine updates from the vendor; 12 months of such updates are included in the initial purchase price.

- AirPatrol Enterprise Controller: a rack-mountable appliance version of AirPatrol Enterprise.

- AirPatrol Enterprise Central Console: software that allows admins to manage and configure multiple AirPatrol Enterprise deployments.

- AirPatrol Enterprise Remote Viewer: Windows tool that allows admins to view--from a remote access point--AirPatrol Enterprise Server or Enterprise Controller floor plans, i.e., the wireless devices and access points detected on a given floor.

AirSafe, AirPatrol Enterprise, and AirPatrol Sentinel (along with AirPatrol Sensors and AirPatrol Mobile) are available now; AirSafe Enterprise, AirPatrol Enterprise Controller, AirPatrol Enteprise Central Console, and AirPatrol Enterprise Remote Viewer are currently in beta and expected to be generally available at the end of May.
