VIPRE Enterprise combines antivirus, antispyware, and anti-rootkit functionality into a centrally managed endpoint security product. Rootkit detection is made possible via FirstScan, which boots prior to the Windows OS and scans the hard drive to remove infections where found.

The company's Active Protection technology defends endpoints against malware by combining three methods:

- Signature matching compares a file for an exact match against VIPRE's definition database

- Heuristic analysis looks at the internal characteristics of a file to determine the likelihood that it is malware

- Behavioral analysis observes a program's actions to determine if it is possibly malware

VIPRE Enterprise also extends email protection for Outlook and Windows Mail as well as support for any email program that uses POP3 and SMTP, such as Thunderbird, IncrediMail, and Eudora.

VIPRE provides a "Malware Command Center" administration console, several agent deployment options (silent push install, MSI file, AD Policy based on OU's, IP range and machine lists) and low resource utilization rates on the agent side, according to Sunbelt Software.

Policy-based scheduling allows for both quick and deep scans with modifiable options, such as scanning cookies and/or running processes. A customizable dashboard presents data in quadrants that generate visual charts and graphs.

Scheduled reporting, custom reports and automated email distribution of generated reports round out the product's management capabilities.
