BitDefender Corporate Security

Bundled Collection of Anti-Malware Tools

BitDefender Corporate Security is a bundled collection of the vendor's anti-malware tools, each of which is targeted to a specific area of implementation in the corporate network. The individual tools can also be purchased separately; and multiple other bundled combinations of the products are available (for example, the BitDefender SBS Standard Security bundle combines the client, Exchange, file server, and SharePoint components described below).

Common to the product platform is the vendor's three-pronged approach to virus identification; including standard signature-based analysis (signature updates are provided and performed by the platform automatically once per hour), content-based heuristic analysis, and behavior-based heuristics. This latter capability is made possible via the vendor's "B-HAVE" technology (Behavioral Heuristic Analyzer in Virtual Environments), which attempts to identify zero-day malware by executing it within an emulated, virtual environment and checking its actions for malicious behavior.

Other key features of the BitDefender line include image-spam protection filters, which examine such image metrics as color content and proportions in an attempt to identify image-based spam; and the new NeuNet (Neural Network; available in the Exchange and Mail Server components described below), an AI-based technology that is pre-trained on a series of known spam messages and is able to learn to recognize new spam messages based on their similarities to messages already examined.

Components of BitDefender Corporate Security (also all available separately) include:

- BitDefender Client Security, including the vendor's BitDefender Enterprise Manager (with the ability to centrally manage all of the Windows-based components in the bundle, including the File Server and Windows-based Mail Server applications); and the BitDefender Professional Plus Client for Windows (98/Me/NT/2000/XP 32-bit, IE 5.5+) workstations. The Enterprise Manager facilitates both the management and upgrade/update of both client and server Windows components, while the Client provides desktop level anti-spam, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall protection. Anti-spam and anti-virus protection operate at real-time on the POP3 protocol level and are thus able to work in conjunction with any POP3 compatible E-mail client; beyond this, the product's anti-virus capabilities rely on file scans (no real-time HTTP/FTP scanning is provided as of this writing). Features include the automated scan and clean of files on access, P2P application protection, notification of an application's attempt to access the Internet, and support for multiple spam identification methodologies, including Bayesian analysis, heuristics, URLs, white and blacklists, charset and image filters.

- BitDefender Security for File Servers, for the anti-virus protection of Windows-based file sharing servers.

- BitDefender Security for Samba, providing both anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for Samba network shares. BitDefender Security for Samba features an open-source vfs module that the vendor notes can be compiled against any Samba version.

- BitDefender Security for Exchange, offering anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, and anti-phishing content and attachment filtering engines for Exchange servers.

- BitDefender Security for Mail Servers, for other mail servers operating on Windows or UNIX platforms (the vendor states that the product is compatible with the majority of existing E-mail platforms).

- BitDefender Security for ISA Servers, with anti-virus and anti-spyware capabilities for Web traffic (HTTP, FTP, FTP over HTTP) through Microsoft's ISA Server, including Web mail. Integrates with ISA through 2 ISAPIs.

- BitDefender Security for SharePoint, with anti-virus protection for SharePoint Servers. Scans files uploaded and downloaded in document libraries and lists in real-time.

BitDefender Corporate Security is available now; base pricing is $669 for the first year for 10 users; with a renewal price of $501.75. Volume discounting is available.
