EzPassport

Fingerprint Authentication for Windows PCs

The flagship product of EzValidation, EzPassport provides a fingerprint-based authentication mechanism for Windows PCs. The product line currently consists of EzPassport Plus, EzPassport Lite, and EzPassport Toolkit, with the newly announces EzPassport Enterprise due to ship in December of 2004.

The EzPassport software utilizes supported hardware fingerprint scanners (the vendor lists EzPassport Plus as supporting AuthenTec and Fujitsu gear; EzPassport Enterprise is initially expected to support AuthenTec) to provide fingerprint-based access controls both to the Windows O/S itself (i.e., Windows Login) as well as specific functions. Authentication can be by fingerprint only, or fingerprint in combination with user names and passwords. The installation, setup, and enrollment process is wizard based.

The EzPassport Lite edition provides only Windows Login authentication; however, the EzPassport Plus edition provides the ability to protect other Windows usages, as well. Examples include the ability to protect access to certain applications (preventing them from launching unless authentication is provided); file and folder encryption and access; password bank management for secure sign-on to Web sites and applications (i.e., allowing passwords for sites to be retrieved via fingerprint ID); Screen Saver locking; and automatic logout.

The EzPassport Enterprise Edition, due in December, adds client-server interactivity to the offering, allowing users to login at any client-enabled station using their fingerprint ID as stored on the server. Active Directory will be supported for user management, and admins can setup network policies for authentication-based login, application launch, and file access.

Finally, the EzPassport Toolkit is an SDK allowing Windows application developers to implement EzPassport biometric login capabilities directly into their own applications. The SDK includes API, DLL, header files and sample code and provides support for C, C++ and Visual Basic development environments. The toolkit is targeted to developers working on Windows NT 4.0, 2000 or XP systems.

The EzPassport Enterprise Edition is expected to be available in December, with a starting price of $5,000 (which includes the server component, 5 licensed clients, and 5 fingerprint sensors). Contact EzValidation for further information.
