TetraGate provides potentially swipe-less individual identification and access control for organizations. The platform combines two forms of recognition into a single identification system: facial recognition, and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).

The vendor decribes the platform as being able to identify individuals using long range cameras at a distance of up to 60 feet away. Facial images are captured by the cameras, and compared to a registered database at a rate of up to 60,000 images a second. In addition, RFID scanners can also identify, via radio frequencies, individual tags which the individual themselves can possess (for personal identification) and/or are located on specific assets (laptops, handhelds, etc.) the individual may be carrying with them. In this way, a person with a tag that does not belong to them can potentially be identified as a security risk (because their facial recognition fails), as can a person with a recognized face but an invalid ID card.

The platform can then process the identification information and trigger security alerts as necessary based on defined business rules; responding differently to an unrecognized face then it would to an unrecognized ID card, for example. Because of the use of radio frequencies and video imaging for identification, the vendor notes that the individual needn't present or swipe a badge as they pass through the secure checkpoint.
