Security* Submit Products * Total Traffic ControlTargeted primarily to schools and other educational organizations, Total Traffic Control (TTC) provides capabilities such as activity monitoring, Web content filtering, spam blocking and more to assist these organizations in complying with CIPA regulations. The platform provides both a gateway-based Security Server, which monitors traffic and applies security measures and/or generates activity reports as network traffic enters and leaves the network; and security agents that reside on the individual Windows-based endpoints and provide additional security controls including the ability to designate program permissions as well as support filtering policies for offline machines. Multiple Security Servers can be deployed on the network if necessary, allowing for the implementation of policy controls based on geographic locations, network segments, and the like; and both the distributed Security Servers and the Security Agents can all be managed from a central console. The Security Server can work in conjunction with the Security Agents and is able to produce reports detailing specific traffic or networking metrics. The vendor notes that the platform can produce over 50 canned reports, including Blocked Content, Top Network Users, Installed Applications, Top File Sharing Downloads, and more. Reports can be viewed locally or remotely, printed to a PDF file, or exported in CSV format. Key features of the TTC platform include: - Web filtering, via the enforcement of access policies against the vendor's categorized (100+ categories) list of Web sites. Administrators can reclassify sites as they see fit, including the creation of new site categories. Unknown (uncategorized) sites can automatically be blocked or allowed; as well as automatically sent to the vendor for classification. The newly categorized site is then returned to the customer the next day. Filtering rules can be specified and enforced by users or user groups (IP address groups, group, OUs or domains), with user information stored locally via the product's own DB or accessed from AD or an LDAP server. Authentication can be required for Web access, and policies can also be enforced based on the time of day. - Spam blocking and filtering via multiple examination methods, including RBL server lookups, white/black/grey lists, adult subject line scanning, attachment/body virus scanning, integration with the content filtering database, and more. "Local learning" technology enables the product's bayesian algorithms to automatically merge organization-specific words and phrases into its spam-detection patterns. Detected spam is either bounced, archived, or placed in a bucket for review and/or possible forwarding by the user. - Bandwidth controls, enforced by policies based on source/destination IP address or port number, application, Windows username/group, or time of day. New features in the latest TTC release include support for message journaling/archiving (with support for Exchange, GroupWise, and POP3); mail-server based anti-virus control; mobile filtering features; secure proxy blocking, and more. In addition to the full TTC product, Lightspeed also offers the Lightspeed Firewall, an E-rate eligible appliance that provides a sub-set of full TTC functionality. Pricing for TTC starts at $10/per workstation with a 500 workstation minimum. Volume discounts are available, as are some prepaid and term discounts.
