The Titus Labs suite of products provide tools that allow and force end users to apply classification labels to the E-mails and/or documents they create, as well as restrict the delivery of E-mails and/or attached documents based on the classifications that have been applied. Three primary products are currently available: Message Classification for Outlook, Message Classification Web Access, and Document Classification. The products are available separately, though the Message and Document Classification products provide integration features such that messages can be recognized both by the classification of the E-mail itself as well as the classification of any attached documents.

Message Classification provides an additional toolbar to Outlook clients that allow and/or force end users to assign classification labels to the E-mail messages they create. Labels can also be applied to Outlook Calendar appointments and tasks. Such labels are administrator defined, and can refer to a particular message sensitivity (such as "Confidential" or "Internal Only"), or could possibly pertain to message retention (such as "60 days," or "120 days," etc.). Multiple, hierarchichal classifications can be applied per message. Such labels then ride along in the header of messages when they are transmitted; and can conceivably be used by downstream message scanning and/or archiving software to assist those downstream tools in the identification of messages for their own purposes. An option allows administrators to not allow the downgrading of message classifications when they are forwarded or replied to.

Both visual labels, including unique disclaimers based on the message classification and/or identifiers inserted into the message body (first/last line) and/or subject line, as well as metadata that can be used by downstream tools can be customized for automated inclusion in the message by the administrator. Such labels can also be used in Outlook's own search and sort functions when viewing and locating messages.

Message Classification is served in Standard and Enterprise flavors. Key differences between the two include the ability to define a "Safe Recipients" list for classifications, restricting who can received particular classifications by E-mail domain or Active Directory Groups; and the ability to warn users before sending sensitive E-mails to large lists.

Message Classification Web Access provides forced classification of messages when created through Outlook Web Access. Again, visual identifiers are supported (first/last line, subject line) and a "Prevent" feature allows the product to prevent the viewing of sensitively-classified information by unauthorized individuals. Message Classification Web Access is interoperable with the Message Classification product; labels assigned in one are recognizable in the other.

New Message Classification features in the latest release include:

- Support for up to 7 classification labels, with the ability to assign labels via dropdowns, multi-selects, date pickers, type-in fields, or hierarchical menu-based selection

- Support for the application of action policies (for example, the trusted recipients described above) at any level of classification; including the aforementioned "no downgrade" and a new "no change" policy

- Support for the creation of labels that can automatically trigger S/MIME encryption and digital signatures (Enterprise Edition only) and/or Microsoft Rights Management Services protections

- Labeling enhancements (support for different message body labeling for different classifications; abbreviation support in subject-line markings)

- Support for role-based messaging (messages are sent/received based on a user's role, instead of as an individual)

Document Classification extends the vendor's labeling technology to Microsoft Office Documents, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Features include context sensitive "Guided Classification" that suggests (and potentially forces) appropriate labels based on document contents; the application of document watermarks or customizable visual header/footers based on classification; integration with SharePoint (metadata from Document Classification can be imported and viewed in a SharePoint document library) and Rights Management Services; and a Shell Extension that supports the batch classification of existing documents. Document Classification further supports integration with Message Classification such that the message can be identified (and policies enforced) both via the message classification and the classification of any documents that have been attached to it.
