ContentProtect Professional is targeted to SMBs (the vendor also offers a home version of the product for individuals) and provides Web content filtering to end users. The content filtering utilizes both dynamic analysis technologies, in which the software analyzes and attempts to understand the content (in conjunction with word lists) that is retrieved "in context" and filters it based on user Internet policies; and, in the latest release, URL black and white lists for the automatic rejection or allowance of specified Web sites.

The filtering component of ContentProtect Professional is a client-deployed platform, in that the software is not server-resident but instead is deployed directly to the individual end user Windows 2000 or XP machines. The vendor notes that the client software can be pushed to these machines; and that existing user definitions can be imported from LDAP directories.

Though the filtering component runs on the client machines, ContentProtect Professional additionally provides a managed central management and reporting service. Via this "ContentWatch Data Center" (CDC), administrators can remotely view reports over the Internet detailing employee Internet activity. Additionally, the CDC can be used to remotely manage user Internet policies, permit or terminate a user's Internet access, and automatically receive E-mail notifications when a user attempts to access or override their Internet policy. Administrators can create organization, group, or individual filtering settings for employees.

Other features of ContentProtect Professional include support for manual or automatic list, definition, and program updates; multi-language support; and the ability to prevent usage of specific peer-to-peer applications such as BitTorrent, Kazaa, eMule/eDonkey, and Gnutella.

New features of the latest ContentProtect Professional release include enhanced performance; support for personalized black/white lists; and a new browser-based admnistrator interface.

ContentProtect Professional is also available in a "Suite" version that includes popup blocking, E-mail filtering, and spam controls.
