IBM Tivoli Identity Manager provides for the enterprise a centralized platform from which security, IT, and compliance administrators can manage and provision identity information; including personnel account information, access rights, password assignments, etc.

The product runs from a central server and connects to/interacts with identity repositories and access systems via adapter components. Multiple-such adapters are available from the vendor, including those for interaction with Microsoft Active Directory, IBM Tivoli Access Manager, AIX, DB2, HP-UX, Linux, Lotus Notes, Oracle, Novell Netware, Sybase, and more.

The product boasts a request and workflow-based provisioning process for the granting of access rights to resources for individuals. Self-service capabilities are provided and can be customized for integration with corporate portals.

For auditors, compliance related reports can be generated (security policy, access rights, and audit events), and support is additionally provided for the creation of custom reports and integration with Tivoli Compliance Insight Manager (which maps audit reports to regulations and best practices). A "read-only" mode for auditors is also supported.

New features in the latest release include the ability to automate the process of correcting and removing non-compliant access rights; and the aforementioned IBM Tivoli Compliance Insight Manager integration.
