MetaFortress is targeted to software developers/ISVs and provides for their compiled code a protective layer that attempts to prevent the hacking and/or piracy of their programs. According to the vendor, MetaFortress applies "... thousands of layers of pervasive protection to the whole application," including the prevention of hacks through such methods as memory breakpoints, hardware breakpoints, simulation attacks, and more.

MetaFortress is applied to the code as part of the build process, following a separate analysis phase where the product examines and builds the actual protection scheme itself. According to the vendor, the protection applied to each application is specific to that application and therefore a hacker who has penetrated the protection on one particular app would need to separately re-penetrate any other apps protected by the platform. The protection included within the program typically has less than a .2% impact on the application's overall performance.

The vendor states that the product "integrates into popular IDEs," with Visual Studio specifically listed. (It is integrated as a plug-in with Visual Studio, but can be called as an application from any IDE or build process.) As of this writing, the protected program must be C/C++ and the tool needs access to the application's source code.
